Philosophy
Helping others had been the mandate of Odd Fellowship since Thomas Wildey founded the first lodge in 1819 in Baltimore. Odd Fellows and Rebekahs have made giving a way of life and have prided themselves in helping others.
The need for friendship, love and truth is no less today than it was 150 years ago when Wildey commanded, "Visit the sick, relieve the distressed, bury the dead and educate the orphan."
In the creation of the Odd Fellows Holgate Center, Odd Fellows again placed themselves at the forefront in the quest to help others, to make lives more meaningful, to give comfort to the aged and to make the world a better place.
Our Center is owned and sponsored by the Independent Order of Odd Fellows, an international fraternal order that has a long and distinguished history of serving the elderly and others who may be distressed.
The Odd Fellows Holgate Center holds that life, all life, is precious and embraces a firm belief that life is to be honored and respected. People are to be afforded every opportunity to participate and enjoy life as each individual's abilities will allow. We are dedicated to providing health and residential care to the elderly of our community. Emphasis is placed on restorative nursing, rehabilitation and maximum independence of each person who resides, or who receives care from, the Center. The care and the services shall be of the highest standard we are capable of offering.
We believe that death, no less than birth, is a sacred event and is to be afforded every dignity.
